No new 2026 police-constable exercise is currently listed by NPSC; the last verified exercise recruited 10,000 constables from 3 to 9 October 2025 and is closed. Recruitment is free. The next NPSC advert will control its dates, centres, requirements and form, so do not reuse a previous schedule as a current invitation.
No recruitment exercise is currently announced. Beware of any ‘ongoing police recruitment’ claims outside official NPSC announcements — they are fraudulent.
Who qualifies for police constable recruitment?
The latest official reference is the 2025 NPSC constable advert. It required:
- Kenyan citizen with a valid national ID;
- Age 18–28 for KCSE-level entrants (with variations for graduates in past cycles);
- Education: minimum KCSE mean grade D+ with at least D+ in English or Kiswahili;
- Physical & medical fitness: minimum height 5 feet 8 inches for men and 5 feet 3 inches for women, plus the exercise’s medical and physical assessment;
- Character: no criminal record or pending criminal charges;
- For women: not pregnant at recruitment and through initial training.
Graduate cadet and specialist tracks (when advertised) carry their own degree requirements and higher age caps — those enter at inspectorate levels (what that means for pay).
These were 2025 criteria. Check whether you qualify for constable recruitment, then compare the result with the next official advert.
How does recruitment day work?
Police recruitment is a physical, one-day selection at designated centres per sub-county:
- Announcement — NPSC publishes the exercise with centre schedules; you attend the centre covering your home sub-county.
- Complete the official form: in 2025 it was downloadable from official police/NPSC sites, available at Huduma Centres, and fillable through the published NPSC link.
- Screening down the line: document verification, height/weight and medical checks, physical fitness assessment, and oral vetting. Officials mark and progressively eliminate; selected candidates are listed at the end of the day.
- Selected candidates follow the reporting and training instructions issued through the official process; do not assume a campus or duration before it is stated.
- Vetting continues through training — document fraud discovered later means dismissal and prosecution.
What disqualifies candidates on the day?
The advert and regulations control disqualification. Common preventable failures include false or mismatched documents, missing the age or academic threshold, failing the published height or medical criteria, attending the wrong designated centre or arriving outside its stated hours. Do not add social-media grooming rules to the official list. Preparation mirrors the KDF playbook: organise records, train safely and confirm the centre directly from NPSC.
Why police recruitment attracts the most fraud — and how to stay safe
NPSC’s 2025 advert warned that recruitment was free, bribery was a criminal offence and false information could lead to a fine or imprisonment. It gave official reporting contacts including NPSC, emergency lines and the DCI hotline. A person selling a “slot”, shortlist or calling letter is not part of the official process; use the contacts in the current advert and the scam guide.
Preparing between cycles (what serious candidates do now)
With no exercise open, organise documents, resolve identity mismatches lawfully and build fitness safely. The 2025 advert encouraged qualified NYS graduates to apply but did not guarantee selection. Compare the separate Kenya Prisons recruitment rules and wider government jobs, and track verified windows rather than forwarded dates.
Frequently asked questions
When is the next police recruitment in Kenya?
Exercises are announced by the NPSC as staffing needs and budgets allow — historically roughly annual but not guaranteed. No dates exist until officially gazetted; this page and our alerts update the day an announcement lands.
What KCSE grade is required for police recruitment?
The 2025 constable advert required KCSE D+ and at least D+ in English or Kiswahili. Treat that as previous-cycle evidence; the next advert controls.
What salary does a police constable earn after training?
Pay depends on the appointed rank, official scale and applicable allowances. See the police salary guide for how to verify an offer without relying on an unsupported viral table.
Is there any fee at any stage of police recruitment?
None — not for forms, medicals, training, or calling letters. Any payment request, from anyone, is fraud by definition.
How long is police training and is it paid?
NPSC’s recruitment advert does not provide a universal training duration or stipend amount. Follow the calling letter and official training instructions issued for the successful cohort.
Can I attend a recruitment centre outside my home sub-county?
No — you’re recruited at your home sub-county’s designated centre against its allocation. Presenting elsewhere is a standard disqualification.
